March 1st, Storm's Triplets

Cloverdale SS Stormalina (Twin Creeks BW Storm Surge +*S x Rosasharn's TL Esterlina) gave us three very pretty and very correct kids by Tiny Colors SS Moonshadow (Desertwinds SN Sand Storm x McConnell's Ruffles).  First born is a nicely-shaped boy, built very much like his mother and his grandfather Storm Surge, this boy is wide throughout, level and very strong already.  UNllike his mother and grandsire, he's also very laid back and a true snuggler, very friendly and easy-going, nothing seems to bother him, he doesn't make a fuss over being moved, handled, even laid on by his two sisters.  This one is being evaluated for buck status, check with me if you're interested as I do NOT need another buck (see that, honey?  I really will not keep another boy, I sort-of promise!) and if he's as nice in a couple weeks as he seems to be now, he'll be sold as a buck.  If someone wants him as a wether for that sweet temperament of his, though, I would not have a problem with that, either.  He is as you can see in these newborn photos a very pretty boy, nice coloration and with a few undeveloped moonspots peeking out on both his black half and his light-colored half.  He should be stunning.

These were newborn pics when he was 30 min old - watch for new ones soon!

The two girls are equally stunning and nothing like each other.  Second-born is a sweet girl that loves to just be held, very pretty and more importantly, very LONG and LEVEL.  I love her long legs, her long body, I hope her shoulders stay as sharp and tight as she matures.  She is a nice buckskin and may also develop moonspots like her brother (and sire) and has a touch more roaning than her siblings.  I think she's going to be a very nice blend of her mother's power and her father's dairy and length.  Her dam has such a nice, large udder with great teat size and perfect placement and I think on this freshening has finally shown me her great capacity.  This girl should carry that udder and her grand-dam's udder, which is very soft and has the same large teats.   Her sister, the third-born is the most feisty, first to nurse, first to explore, first to come up and DEMAND that I love on her.  This one is, for now, retained unless just the right home comes along.  This petite girl is smaller than the other two but not by much, she's nearly as tall but not as long in the body, taking after her compact but wide dam.  This doeling is so wide between the hocks that I had to check her legs to see if they were bowed!  She's fine, it's just a combination of her dam's extreme width and her white coloring on the outside of her thigh lending to an optical illusion.  She's a nicely-built doe, should also have a nice udder and already has slightly larger / longer little baby teats than her sister or maybe that's also an illusion because she's smaller?  At any rate, I'm just tickled with her and love going out to the maternity pen because she bounces right up to greet us first thing.  The only thing about this girl is she seems to be a bit posty in the rear once in a while but not all the time so maybe she is still unfolding from the tight quarters before birth?  I also think her coloration is unique; pale caramel in the front, medium reddish tan in the back with lots of black and white accenting and a couple moonspots trying to show up.

The first of the two girls, very stunning, and then all three kids with the last-born semi-hiding behind her sister and the buckling hiding all the way at the back.

Updated Photos!  Here the kids are at 13 days old, still feisty and very healthy!

Anabelle Delivers!

And boy did she!  Tiny Colors SK Anabelle is a delightful FF out of a doe with SUCH a wonderful udder; great to milk, tons of thick milk, fantastic milk-stand personality so of course I watched Anabelle's ever-increasing udder with great interest, almost more interested in the udder than the upcoming kids.  And she did not disappoint, quietly giving birth this morning (March 3rd, 2009) to a very nice pair of kids that are incredibly large and wow! what an udder!  Seriously, that udder is exactly what I was hoping for especially in capacity and length of teat.  I can't imagine she'd get better but as I write this it has only been about three hours and I'm sure she'll get better over the next few weeks.  Additionally she's pretty AND POLLED so I have to watch the kids but I believe they're both polled as well.  So, on to the pictures -
First is a very masculine boy, built like a tank but incredibly angular like his sire, Moonshadow.  He's white with bits of black and I hope a few moonspots hiding beneath the white.  He started out rather vocal but once he figured out his mom would come right away, he settled down.

Here's the charmer and it's hard to tell how HUGE he is but trust me, he's big!

Then there was two - a very feminine and yet not tiny girl, very pretty face, showed up with plenty to show off.  This girl looks like her mother did at birth, very girly and angular and tight / sharp.  I was surprised at her color (or lack of) in that unlike her buckskin-with-tons-of-white mother, she's solid black with tons of milk chocolate moonspots and only a hit of white roaning around her neck, a white poll and ears.  She's another girl that has a natural stance that shows off her angularity and width from the rear.  She's got a sweet way of snugglng without seeming to be interested until she's suddenly all the way in your lap.  I hope she keeps that sweetness.

I'm resisting the impulse to name this one 'Moon Unit Zappa'

Updated Photos:  I'm liking this boy and girl more and more as they mature - both are very sweet and look at that face!  Not exactly cooperative today, they still did fairly well for the camera with help from my sons.
see, she really IS level when she isn't trying to hop into our arms

Licorice Gives us GIRLS

Born March 12th, these three darlings are very athletic and sweet, preferring to climb into our laps rather than just snuggle as most babies this age.  These precious girls are by Tiny Colors SS Moonshadow (and it looks like he gave at least one of them his moonspots) out of Fiorito's Licorice, a very nice doe that milks rather well even though she has small-ish teats (she has very soft udder skin).  All three are big and healthy and somewhat difficult to tell apart at first glance but we'll soon get them straight.  Here they are in birth order:
