We Love Our Bucks!

Yes, I know this isn't a Nigerian but George was SO excited to see himself in the reflection on my lens that I couldn't get him to back off until he checked out his gorgeous smile!  George is a purebred Alpine, lacking papers only because his breeder skipped town with the cash for him and his half-sister Gracie (she's available for sale) before we could round up the correct papers.  George babies are always lanky, large and gorgeous and he stands to approved outside does on occasion - contact me via email for more details.

Buck Stuff

Well, another year, another rut!  As we get everyone ready for this year's big breeding season, let me share who we have "on deck".  Please excuse the pictures - we just went out and snapped a few to give you some idea and will take 'proper show pose' pics this weekend or next, depending on the weather.

Nigerians -

Copper Penny Blue Frank, 04/07/2002 - a gorgeous black buck with bits of white and those gorgeous blue eyes, this boy took Grand Champion the first and only time he was ever in the show ring.  By Woodhaven Farms Lonesome Blues (MCH Jobi Goldsmith x Woodhaven Farms Lawanda) out of Lost Pines Gaberdine (Goodwood Cimmaron Galahad x MCH Goodwood Fox 2*D) Frank has a very stout build and oozes dairy character.  He has produced some very nice babies and adds necessary 'power' when bred to extremely dairy does.

Take Heart Blueberry Wine, 02/15/2005 - another Grand Champion winner (we were hoping for enough buck shows to get him finished but with the price of gas, we're kinda lacking opportunities this year), Blue is our very dairy boy and I'm pleased to see his body type in all his kids including two I'm retaining from this year's kid crop.  Blue is bred by Tina French and embodies the personality / temperament she's famous for, very loveable, gentle and easily trained.  He also LOVES to be in the show ring and absolutely NOTHING bothers him.  Blue is by BRB RC Ya Ya (Steele Ballew Ozzy X Goodwood KW Hula Hoop) out of Proverbial Annabelle (Tin Acres Blue Nuggett x Karim's Cookie).  I love Annabelle's udder which she has passed to her daughters and it's that udder (still looking absolutely fantastic even as a very aged doe in milk) that got me to talk Tina out of Blue when he was just a couple days old.  This year is the first year he has produced daughters for me and I can't wait to see how they shape up in the milk pail!

Here's Blue growing out his Spring clip and helping his son learn to stand in a pose with my son Erik and here he is trying to give kisses while Erik TRIES to get him posed for me.

Take Heart Harvest Moon, 03/27/2004 - our first buck and originally acquired to freshen our few does and give us babies with that fabulous Trumpkin personality, Harvey has become a favorite among my pet buyers who always come back for more Harvey babies, always flashy and with that great temperament that just begs to be best friends with their people.  Harvey is by Foothill Ranch Trumpkin (Ponders End BK Bon Jovi x Ponders End MTB Dynasty) out of Copper Penny Autumn (Woodhaven Farms Lonesome Blues x OTR Rock's Indian Summer) and I thank Tina over and over for letting us have such a sweetie as our first buck experience.

Desertwinds SN Sand Storm, 02/10/2005 - I fell in love with this guy just from his picture when he was only a week or so old.  He has that extremely dairy build that some of my very powerful old-style does need to balance their body type.  Sand Storm is by MCH Desertwinds Stormin' Norman (Desertwinds MT Charleston x Eby's Skittle at Felicity's) and out of a nice gal, Eby's Peach N Cream At Felicity (Car-Lin Henric x Copper Penny's Serenity) and has his sire's angular build with his uncle's great chest and front end.  I am also very much loving his very soft dairy skin, which he passed to his kids without fail.  Sand Storm's kids do start small (he himself is VERY small) and take a long time to grow to full size but they do get there and are very nice when they do (see Tiny Colors SS Paparazzi as an example - she's the 'cover doe' on the front page of my website at 5 days old and on the Jr Doe page now that she's a long yearling).

Take Heart Skedaddle (co-owned with Nerat Acres), 03/12/2004 - this polled boy is very flashy and although he's a touch tall at 24.5 inches (our unofficial measurement in the barn yard) he's very sharp and uphill and has VERY good, tight shoulders and elbows as well as great feet, toes all pointing forward!  Skedaddle also has that great personality and temperament that Tina breeds into her goats and we've loved every one of his kids, as have the many happy buyers.  Black and white, he puts his mark on ALL his kids and he has a 65% polled rate on Nigerian does, a better-than-70% polled rate on non-Nigerian does!   Here's a look at a set of his quads, all polled out of a nice Nigerian doe.

Tiny Colors SS Moonshadow, 05/06/2007 - a nice-looking dark buckling with some roaning (from his dam) and tons of moonspots (from his sire), this yearling will get his first shot in the breeding pen in a couple months.  As a son of Sand Storm, he was a tad on the slow-growing side but is just as long and powerful as his dam but with more grace and angularity.  By Desertwinds SN Sand Storm (see above) out of McConnell's Ruffles (Deliteful Bayo x Caesar's Villa CBS Raffle) I hope he also throws his dam's large, well-shaped udder.  I would like to see larger teats from his daughters than I had on his dam, who now lives with the Allens and is making the rounds at the shows.

The Babies

Junior Nigerian Bucklings

I've decided we've had two boys that deserve to remain intact this year (a third was snatched up by a lucky buyer already) - their dams have fantastic udders that are well-shaped and easy to milk, they are built very well and have that "ta-da" thing happening right from the moment of birth.

First up is Willa's boy, Tiny Colors Take A Chance (04/08/2008), a stunning gold-and-white boy by Take Heart Blueberry Wine out of Piddlin' Acres PV Willa (Twin Creeks BW Peaceful Voyage x Goodwood Will 'O The Whisp).  This one really is sharp, long, shapely and just LOVES attention.  Of course he inherited from his mother her length and from his father the sharpness and uphill build along with that loveable personality and a temperament that makes everything easy for him to handle.  He never complains, never seems to get upset at any new location or situation, takes it all in stride just like his parents.  He's going to be going to the show ring in Pahrump, NV in early October if I don't find a local buck show before then.  This is one I really should sell because I don't know how many boys I can bear to keep but if he stays this stunning then someone else will have to be bumped onto the 'for sale' list, darn it!

Next is Marvel's son, Tiny Colors Marvel's Ironman (04/12/2008).  Again by Blue and this one out of Car-Lin Marvel (Starbucks Irish Coffee x Car-Lin Inez) this white, black and blue roan boy has a touch of Marvel's old-fashioned build but very tempered with that length and sharpness that Blue puts in his best babies.  This boy is somewhat laid back, a softer buck than Chance and yet just as easy-going in any situation.  He is also going with us to Pahrump in October unless he sells first and of course he can be delivered to that show for any buyers that want to meet me there or along the way.  I don't normally keep bucklings intact but this one also was very full of the "it" factor from the moment of birth, just assuming he would be fawned over and born knowing he was special.  He actually struts as he wanders around in the buck pen these days and although he is a bit too wise to challenge any of the senior bucks, he is very self-assured and doesn't scurry to get out of anyone's way.

Other Boys

Saanens, Mini-Manchas and Alpines

On this list we have:

Nerat Acres Gorgeous George, that handsome Alpine guy you see above (grin) - George actually took the entire herd out the opened gates and down the hill to escape the Witch Creek fire of October 2007, then brought them all back home safely a day or two later, every SINGLE doe, buck, wether and kid!  George still thinks he's a lap puppy and loves to give sweet chin kisses to anyone who will let him.  He produces some really nice kids that have gone on to become pets, milkers and brush-clearing goats.

Vista's Heir Apparent (aka Harry) - Vista's R2D2 x Old English Emperor, this Saanen buck is large and has his dam's nice personality as well as her fine width in the rear.  At a year old he's starting to look very macho and since birth has always looked much more masculine than his sister, Sally.  Harry has given us several nice babies out of his first kid crop, including a Snubian and a Saamancha that are being retained in our herd unless someone is VERY persuasive and can talk me out of them (grin).  His kids out of my nice Alpine does were very large and muscular with VERY soft skin and I'm also retaining one of those does, a real beauty herself and hopefully she'll get his dam's teats, not her dam's.  Either Harry or his nephew (below) will be for sale, most likely both, as I'm retaining his daughters, have his two full sisters AND his dam in my herd, leaving only three or four other does I can breed him with and only TWO Saanens.

Vista's Son Of Light (pending) is a nice little Saanen guy that certainly bears watching.  Out of Vista's Jar-Jar (full sister to Harry, above) and by Old English Jack's Son, this buckling is a bit thicker looking than Harry was at the same age but I'm not sure if that's just my memory or not.  I would love to have Jack's Son bloodlines but this boy is related to SO many of my does that I may or may not be able to justify keeping him!  So of course he'll also be for sale, just like Harry, and hopefully will do very well in the show ring IF I can find any buck shows!

Desertwinds Ace High (mini-mancha) - we're lucky enough to have this boy here while he's looking for a buyer!  What a sweetie, and currently entertaining the ladies (three of the Mini-mancha does also from Donna's fine herd) for Christmas babies!  Ace is a love-bug, very pleasant to be around and very much the snuggler.  He is also a remarkably clean boy, not much smell and almost ZERO 'sticky icky' meaning we get to let him snuggle often.   Ace is very attractive and attentive, not a very pushy buck and certainly not interested in being a bully - he's very gentle in the buck pen with even the youngest jr. bucks.  Ain't he handsome!?
