Until I get a chance to take photos I'll just let y'all know a bit about the girls we're so proud of here in no particular order:
Lost Valley KW Avalanche - dob 02/25/2004. This smooth chocolate doe with just a touch of white is a very nice example of Kingwood breeding, being by Gay-Mor's RA Kingwood ++ *S (Stonewall's Raising Arizona ++S x ARMCH Goodwood Trillium *D E AR1418) and out of Hill Country's X-Terra *D (Flat Rocks Maximum Return x Inavale Savannah). She kidded with nice, big twin wethers (twice!) very easily, especially for a FF and wow, what an udder! Just totally socked on all the way around, wonderful teat placement and such soft skin, long teats are so easy to milk, I just loved it. I am hoping for more capacity this year but she did ok in the pail because she milked out completely flat. In body type she also doesn't disappoint, being very level with flat, well-sprung ribs and a natural uphill stance leading to sharp whithers and tight shoulders. I would like to see a deeper chest / barrel but am hoping that will come with maturity. Avalanche is bred to Take Heart Blueberry Wine for mid-April, 2008 kids. Update: Avalanche gave us another pair of boys in 2007 so we actually tied a pink ribbon on her tail to see if we could get daughters out of her; she DID deepen and fill out nicely with age and now as a pending third-freshener she is moving right to the head of the 'take to shows' list here. Watch for her in Norco at the LVDGA show the first weekend of May, in Pahrump, NV at the MDGC show on October 11 - 13th and possibly at a few fairs throughout Southern CA in the Summer of 2008. UPDATE 2008: Pink ribbons DO NOT WORK! Once again Avalanche gifted us with two spectacular boys by Frank. Both are sold and this year she's going to be seeing a different buck and we MIGHT get a girl so everyone think pink, ok?
not a very good picture but the best I could do today ![]()
TNJ Ranch Kitty's Lilly - dob 04/23/2000. This nearly-solid jet black doe is one of the first millking does we had, having purchased her in milk from Tina French several years ago. Kitty certainly doesn't have the best udder in the herd but all of her daughters have shown great improvement in that area and Lilly herself is our second-in-command over the entire herd of does including the Saanens and other full-size breed girls. She usually gives kids with triplets or quads and we have in our herd two of her daughters and four of her grand-daughters (two of whom are now in other herds making milk and winning blue ribbons). Kitty is by New Road Ranch GF Ulysses (Goodwood Franklin x Goodwood Fettucine) out of Bruno's DH Miss Kitty (Bruno's Doc Holiday x Bruno's Dolly) and is a power doe from strong nose to super-wide tail end. I particularly like her well-sprung flat ribs and her tremendous body capacity; she can be carrying quads and still having us question whether or not she actually settled! She has a large udder but not much in terms of side attachment, no foreudder pocket and produces a lot of milk for us although as she ages she gets harder to milk and I'd appreciate softer udder skin and larger orifices. Most of her offspring go to wonderful pet homes thanks to her great personality and I think this will be her last year of breeding for us. Lilly is bred to Copper Penny Blue Frank for April 2008 babies. UPDATE: Lilly gave us lovely quads, two of whom were born right away and were stunning solid white with a black spot on the tail and solid black with a white tail tip and blue eyes, and two that were stillborn shortly after, both a mix of black and white. She mothered them well and the black girl with the blue eyes (Tiny Colors BF Simplicity) is now happily living with the Allens in Vista - congratulations to them.
McConnell's Lacy Blue - dob 04/09/2002. Lacy (pictured above giving one of her famous smiles!) is one of the first two does we acquired along with Ruffles (who now lives with David A) and has given us some nice babies along the way. She is a gold and white doe and until recently was the only one in our herd with blue eyes. We've kept a daughter of hers from her Feb. 2006 freshening, our Meri. Lacy freshens with a nice, round udder, well-attached all the way around. She could use a stronger MSL and definitely larger teats, although I have seen improvement with each freshening. Lacy is by Deliteful Bayo (Covenant Kids King Alexander x Proverbial Star) and out of Caesar's Villa PN Charity (Caesar's Villa CBS Poncho + *S x Stonewall's Golden Cowgirl 6*D AR1555). Lacy is bred to Copper Penny Blue Frank for early April, 2008 kids. Only wethers will be available from this doe's freshening. Update: Lacy gave us gorgeous triplets, two girls and a boy, all are sold - congrats to their new moms and dads. She'll be dried off in September and bred for March '09 kids IF we choose to breed her this year - we may just milk her through. This doe is FOR SALE and can be bred before leaving.
Fiorito's Licorice - dob 04/24/2004. This black with broken white belt doe is very petite, nice and long for her height and has very soft, supple skin. I especially love her soft udder, which makes up for her somewhat narrow teats. She did show teat improvement on her second freshening and also a nice increase in capacity without sacrificing her well-defined MSL. This is a grand-daughter of our Lilly, being by Mabel's Meadow Tango (Foothill Ranch Trumpkin x Take Heart Whimsy) out of Take Heart Saltwater Taffy (Deliteful StarWhite Poggin x TNJ Ranch Kitty's Lilly) and definitely has her grandmother's wonderful personality. Licorice is bred to Take Heart Blueberry Wine for late-March, 2008 babies. Update: Licorice continues to show improvement in teat size and this year we're looking for a daughter to possibly keep in our herd as we consider retiring Lilly, her grandmother. Licorice gave us surprise quads by Frank this year, all black with only bits of white on some of them, a moon spot on one, blue eyes on three. All are sold and enjoying their new homes! She will be offered FOR SALE and can be bred before leaving.
Car-Lin Marvel - dob 03/29/1999.
This gorgeous old-style heavily-roaned tri-color doe is the undisputed gentle herd queen. Marvel was on the list of available does when Susan Greenberg dispersed her herd and my friend Donna Geiser (of Desertwind Nigerians) advised me to do whatever it took to get this girl. I'm so glad she did because it took all of about six minutes for this wonderful doe to steal my heart and she now has a well-deserved forever home here with us. Marvel is by Starbucks Irish Coffee (Goodwood Loganberry x Starbucks Itty Bitty Patches) out of Car-Lin Inez (Dav-Lyn White Thunder x Hall's Honey-Cutt Fame) and I was also fortunate enough to get a nice note and pictures of this doe from her breeder, Linda Marschall - thanks, Linda! Marvel is very much a production doe with a good width and depth to her body without appearing clunky or coarse; her udder is absolutely perfect - I have no complaints either about how it looks or how easy and pleasant it is to milk. I will be retaining a doeling from the next freshening, as well as a highly-qualified buckling prospect, if possible. Marvel is bred to Take Heart Blueberry Wine for late-March, 2008 babies. Note: The couple times this doe has been in the show ring she's done well, acquiring a Grand Champion Sr. Doe (NDGA) for Linda back in 2001 and IF I get to shows this next year this doe will be one we'll be campaigning.
Here's Marvel waiting for her due date (not for 5 weeks!) And, yes, it DOES say 51 inches!
Marvel reached an astounding 53 inches just before kidding, when she presented us with three perfectly gorgeous kids - a feat I hope she'll repeat with ghusto this time around. She is not as large yet but is already looking like she's going to have a fabulous udder. Marvel has decided she is NOT a fan of travel so unless we take her to the Norco show on May 3rd, she will just remain here at home and be a happy herd queen for us. UPDATE: Marvel gave us triplets and was again the last doe to kid this Spring, we've retained one of the bucklings, a stunning, long, dairy boy we've named Tiny Colors Marvel's Ironman. He is offered for sale as we think he deserves to be in the show ring but if he's still here in mid-Fall, we'll go ahead and use him on a doe or two, provided he's ready. Marvel's udder is once again fantastic with great teats that are just the right size, placement (no sticky forearms when I milk her!) and so soft with huge orifices - a delight to milk.
Tiny Colors Midnight Moon - dob 02/19/2005. This is the first senior doe to carry our herd name and is making us very proud already. When my then-nine-year-old son chose this small, long, wide solid-black doeling to be his own instead of any of the much more flashy babies born that season I was a bit surprised but apparently he has "the eye" because she has certainly turned out very nicely indeed and in her one shot in a show ring took first in her class as a young sr. doe. Midnight is by Take Heart Harvest Moon (Foothill Ranch Trumpkin x Copper Penny Autumn) out of TNJ Ranch Kitty's Lilly (New Road Ranch GF Ulysses x Bruno's DH Miss Kitty) and has both her parents' superb temperament and personality. As a newborn she was incredibly wide and we presumed she'd be a power doe like her mother but with maturity has come an incredible amount of dairy character. She definitely surpasses her dam in the udder department, having nice attachments all around and well-placed teats that got much longer, easier to milk and yet continued to be soft and pointed in the correct direction with her second freshening. Midnight is bred to Take Heart Blueberry Wine for April 2008 babies. Update: Midnight gave me two BEAUTIFUL daughters by Blueberry Wine this year, one of whom we HAD to keep as she's the spitting image of her sire and the other went to a wonderful 4-H show home so watch for her in the ring near you! We'll be bringing Echo, the doeling we kept, to the Pahrump, NV show in early October 2008.
Cloverdale IH Moulin Rouge - dob 05/01/2004. This dark tri-color doe with wattles and some roaning on her face is every bit the nice doe I've come to expect from Incredible Hunk, her sire. Moulin is another of the does acquired in the Cloverdale herd dispersal and is by PromisedLand Incredible Hunk *S (ARMCH Twin Creeks Luck Of The Draw x MCH Gay-Mor's RA Nightowl 2*D) out of Twin Creeks MB Cabaret (Twin Creeks PD Megabuck x Redbud Tango 3*D) and really was a diamond in the rough when I acquired her. She freshened easily both times and last year gave us a doeling we kept in our herd as absolutely stunning. Moulin is also very easy to milk (once we taught her that the pail was not for sitting on) and has the "typical Hunk udder" with attachments all the way around, totally socked-on udder, very smooth fore-udder and large, soft teats. She had wonderful capacity that nearly doubled with her second freshening and I I hope to see great things from her this next freshening. She is in body also a nice dairy doe, being deep in the barrel and wide and with very well-sprung ribs, probably among the best in the herd, second only to Marvel. Personally I just find her eye-catching with her flashy colors and wattles but am so glad to see that she fits the breed standard all the way around as well. Moulin is bred to Take Heart Blueberry Wine for late April, 2008 kids. Update: This is another doe that was a bit stressed by the wildfires of October, 2007 so we we rejoiced to see her twins (doe and wether) born 3/28/2008. The gorgeous blue-roan-and-white girl (with wattles!!!) we retained as I simply have to see that Hunk udder combined with Blue's udder genetics and the little boy instantly enchanted Bob and Liz, who fell in love with him when he was just an hour or so old. ![]()
Cloverdale BAW Spots N Dots - dob 10/10/2004. Yet another of Susan Greenberg's nice does, this flashy doe is mostly white with buckskin pattern dalmation spots, meaning she has teensy splatters of black over the shoulders and on her front half and face, reddish-brown specks and splatters over her hind half, tan on her lower legs and some on her face, black eye liner and is just a very pretty color doe. Aside from color she's also very well put together, having a natural uphill stance, sharp whithers and very tight, straight, pretty feet and legs. I would like to see tighter shoulders but she is improving with age so maturity will add what she needs there. She is also developing nicely in the brisket, seemingly getting deeper every day. This doe has such a nice udder I can't wait to see this year's kids; she's got incredible teats and that lovely Rosasharn soft udder. Her MSL is so distinct it almost looks like a fore-udder pocket until she actually freshens and that smooths right out. Spots is by Rosasharn Tom's Bit-A-Willy +S (ARMCH Goodwood Tom Thumb + *S E x ARMCH Goodwood Water Lilly 2*D VG) out of Pecan Hollow PH Juliet *D (Twin Creeks AA Purple Heart +S G+ x Piddlin Acres Cupid's Passion) and has the typical nice Rosasharn udder, large capacity for a FF although I wanted better attachments but the MSL, teat length and width and placement was SO nice to milk and her skin is SO soft and pliable I couldn't keep my hands off her. Spots was bred to Take Heart Blueberry Wine (yes, he was a busy boy for five weeks!) and gave us two beautiful boys on March 11, 2008. Here's one of her about half an hour after being milked out - I'll try to get an udder pic next time - ![]()
Cloverdale SS Stormalina - dob 09/04/2004. Another Storm Surge daughter, this nicely-built brown-and-tan chamoisee doe is almost a carbon copy of her sire except in her feminine face and demeanor. She's a skittish doe but I think that's mostly nurture and not nature as her singleton doeling is very sweet and friendly and even Storm herself has gotten to be very comfortable and almost snuggly with me when I'm milking her. Storm is by Twin Creeks BW Storm Surge + *S (MCH Twin Creeks BH Bay Watch ++ *S E x MCH Twin Creeks BH Mairiri's Zinnia 4*D E) out of another nice udder doe, Rosasharn's TL Esterlina (ARMCH Rosasharn's Tiger L + *S E x ARMCH Rosasharn's Guadalupe Moteada). I have no complaints about this doe at all, liking her udder attachments, shape, MSL, teat placement and size, the whole udder package. And that udder is backed by a nice, strong body with lots of "heft" to it without being at all coarse or awkward. Storm is bred to Copper Penny Blue Frank for May, 2008 kids. UPDATE: Storm gave us two identical boys, one of whom has already gone to his new home and the other is listed FOR SALE and hopefully will be going to a new home soon! He can go as a buck but I have no problem wethering him either, so be sure to ask about the discount if he's wethered before he leaves.
Piddlin Acres PV Willa - dob 12/16/2002. At last we come to another doe Donna Geiser advised us to acquire, the lovely and very typey cream / white doe, Willa. This doe is VERY long, nice and deep, could use sharper withers but that's just my uneducated opinion as no one else seems to have even a slight problem with anything about this doe. I loved milking her soft udder with the plump (and plumb) teats spaced just right and pointed in the correct direction to hit the pail every time. She also continues to produce a lot of milk for her size at even more than nine months after her FF. Willa is by Twin Creeks BW Peaceful Voyage *S (MCH Twin Creeks BH Baywatch *S E x MCH Twin Creeks BH Mairiri's Zinnia 4*D E) and out of Goodwood Will 'O The Whisp E (Gay-Mor's RA Kingwood + *S x Goodwood Tennessee) and usually gives us kids that are spitting images of herself. Her April, 2006 daughter joined her 2007 daughter over at the Allens in Vista and all will appear in the show rings this summer. Willa is bred to Take Heart Blueberry Wine for early- to mid-April, 2008 kids with one doe reserved (JA).

UPDATE: Willa did not disppoint, giving us two girls and a boy on April 8th, 2008. One little girl was very much smaller and didn't make it but the other two were strong and healthy and right from birth hit the ground saying, "TA-DA!". The doeling, Tiny Colors Ume, will be seen at shows with her new owners, the Allens, and the beautiful golden boy, Tiny Colors Take A Chance, is strutting around the buck pen these days amazing us with his good looks and great personality. He sure has his parents' good body structure and temperament - nothing seems to bug him at all! Watch for Chance in Pahrump, NV in early October, 2008. I could be pursuaded to let him go to a show home after the Pahrump show but only because I don't show enough to do him justice except in the breeding shed.
Cloverdale Chocolate Drizzle
and
Cloverdale Splash Of Chocolate - dob 05/28/2005. These are two small daughters of PromisedLand Incredible Hunk *S (ARMCH Twin Creeks LS Luck Of The Draw x MCH Gay-Mor's RA Nightowl 2*D) and Caesar's Villa STS Heart Throb (ARMCH Caesar's Villa CBS Stetson ++ *S x New Horizons Qyeen of Hearts *D) that we took to calling 'micro-does' because as long yearlings they were very tiny indeed, barely the size of a 5-month-old but perfectly proportioned. I'm relieved to say they were just not caught up yet and are now small but sturdy adult does. Both are black with white and with silvery-tan moonspots that look like they were both playing in melted milk chocolate, hence their names. I think one of the does (Drizzle) is more power than her sister but both have nice dairy character and are well-balanced, especially considering how small they are. I am seeing more substance in their bone structure as they mature and they both have nice flat bones and well-sprung ribs with Drizzle being just a tad better in that arena than her sister. I also really like how level and uphill both are and how very wide between the hocks and with such a nice round wide escutcheon. I just KNOW that's to make room for those wonderful Hunk udders, very well-shaped and attached just everywhere. UPDATE: Both girls gave us pretty babies this year; Drizzle giving us triplets by Frank (stillborn doe, 2 wethers - both sold) and Splash giving us nice twins by Blueberry Wine (doe and wether - both sold). Both had nice udders with fantastic attachments and improved teat size, both will be bred again for Spring '09 babies.
Tiny Colors All American - dob 03/16/2006. This buckskin doe has a lot of roaning, so her front half is a roaned black that looks blue, her back half is a deep, rich red and her white belt made her name obvious. Even without the roaning, though, her pretty blue eyes just made her that much more flashy and so she stayed in our herd. Her sire is Take Heart Harvest Moon (Foothill Ranch Trumpkin x Copper Penny Autumn) and her dam is McConnell's Lacy Blue (Deliteful Bayo x Caesar's Villa PN Charity). Because this doe's dam produced a doeling that, at 19 months, suddenly developed a teat defect we are keeping all of that doe's daughters including Meri AND all of Meri's daughters until we see that there are no more teat defects, indicating the problem was environmental and not necessarily genetic. We will still watch this line very closely and if any more defects are spotted will cull this from our breeding herd and then Meri will go on to be just a favored pet here. She is not as long in the body as I like to see but makes up for it with sharpness of wither, tight shoulders, strong, angular legs and feet and a very nice demeanor, not surprising considering her sire's great personality and prepotence to pass that along. Meri gave us a gorgeous pair of twins on March 11th, 2008 by Take Heart Blueberry Wine. One doeling is retained (Echo) and the other is lucky to be living with Melissa D - watch for her in the show ring. I'm quite pleased with Meri's udder - soft skin, a total improvement over her dam's already-nice udder as Meri has larger teats and a much better capacity as well as strong attachments and she actually has an improved capacity over her dam as well. I would like to see a better medial but for a FF I'm very happy with this udder and look forward to next year's.
DC Miniatures Perfect Timing - dob 11/01/2005. This doe was exposed to a buck for several months last Winter, Spring and again in the Summer but what we didn't expect was that the buck was, well, substantially less than fertile so this girl and her herdmate (another lovely DC Miniatures doe) are still without kids, although both were then bred in late Fall for April 2008 kids. PT is a nice doe with a good body capacity both in width and depth, nice space between her hocks, all toes point forward and she's pretty to boot. She's bred to Copper Penny Blue Frank and we're hoping for some girls out of this one, to get a good look at her udder as the reason I bought this pretty blue-eyed girl was after one good look at a picture of her mom's udder. This doe is linebred on Woodhaven Farms Lucious Cole being by DC Miniatures Cole Lateral (Woodhaven Farms Lucious Cole x Woodhaven Farms Alexa VG) out of DC Miniatures Tomorrow's Hope (Woodhaven Farms Lucious Cole x Ponders End OM Amelie) and although her dam looked to be a tad too tall for NDGA shows, this girl is shaping up to be a nice mid-sized doe built a lot like her sire. UPDATE: PT gave us a pair of very pretty twins by Copper Penny Blue Frank , both of whom are sold. I almost kept the doeling as I love PT's FF udder - great shape and capacity, decent teats, could use better side attachments but the foreudder is great and she's nice and high in the rear udder as well. I also am very thankful for her long, plump (and plumb) teats with their large orifices - she's very easy to hand-milk even for my 4-year-old. not the best pic but it's hard to catch these girls in show poses after they've been fed and milked as all they want to do is settle in for their mid-morning siesta! ![]()
