Happy Girls!

As you can see, our girls are happy, healthy and for the most part everything we could have asked for.  In fact, we've been SO happy we've let our herd get a bit too large, so don't forget to check out our 'for sale' page and if you see someone you really want, don't hesitate to drop me an email and we can talk about it.  I just need to get down on numbers so we can safely evacuate everyone in case of another wildfire or other emergency.

Who We Have

Until I get a chance to take photos I'll just let y'all know a bit about the girls we're so proud of here in no particular order:

Lost Valley KW Avalanche - dob 02/25/2004  by Gay-Mor's RA Kingwood ++ *S (Stonewall's Raising Arizona ++S x ARMCH Goodwood Trillium *D E AR1418) and out of Hill Country's X-Terra *D (Flat Rocks Maximum Return x Inavale Savannah).  Wow, what an udder!  Totally socked on all the way around, wonderful teat placement and such soft skin, long teats are so easy to milk.  I am hoping for more capacity this year but she does milk out completely flat.  In body type she is very level with flat, well-sprung ribs and a natural uphill stance leading to sharp withers and tight shoulders.  I would like to see a deeper chest / barrel but am hoping that will come with maturity.

not a very good picture but the best I could do today

TNJ Ranch Kitty's Lilly - dob 04/23/2000.  This nearly-solid jet black doe is one of the first does we had and she certainly doesn't have the best udder in the herd but all of her daughters have shown great improvement in that area.  Lilly is by New Road Ranch GF Ulysses (Goodwood Franklin x Goodwood Fettucine) out of Bruno's DH Miss Kitty (Bruno's Doc Holiday x Bruno's Dolly) and is a power doe from strong nose to super-wide tail end.  I particularly like her well-sprung flat ribs and her tremendous body capacity; she can be carrying quads and still having us question whether or not she actually settled!  She has a large udder but not much in terms of side attachment, no foreudder pocket and produces a lot of milk for us although as she ages she gets harder to milk and I'd appreciate softer udder skin and larger orifices.

McConnell's Lacy Blue - dob 04/09/2002.  Lacy (pictured above giving one of her famous smiles!) is one of the very first two does we acquired along with Ruffles (who has come back home to live with us - much thanks to the Allens!) and is a gold and white doe with blue eyes.  Lacy freshens with a nice, round udder, well-attached all the way around.  She could use a stronger MSL and definitely larger teats, although I have seen improvement with each freshening.  Lacy is by Deliteful Bayo (Covenant Kids King Alexander x Proverbial Star) and out of Caesar's Villa PN Charity (Caesar's Villa CBS Poncho + *S x Stonewall's Golden Cowgirl 6*D AR1555). Only wethers and doelings will be sold from this doe, no bucks.

Fiorito's Licorice - dob 04/24/2004.  This black with broken white belt doe is very petite, nice and long for her height and has very soft, supple skin with a soft udder, which makes up for her somewhat narrow teats.  She did show teat improvement on her second freshening and also a nice increase in capacity without sacrificing her well-defined MSL.  This is a grand-daughter of our Lilly, being by Mabel's Meadow Tango (Foothill Ranch Trumpkin x Take Heart Whimsy) out of Take Heart Saltwater Taffy (Deliteful StarWhite Poggin x TNJ Ranch Kitty's Lilly) and has her grandmother's wonderful personality.  Licorice gave us quads in 2008 and triplet does in 2009, delighting us with their femininity and angularity - this year's kids are by Take Heart SS Moonshadow and are on the For Sale page.  I'm also LOVING how her teats have increased in size and milkability in this third freshening.

Car-Lin Marvel - dob 03/29/1999.  Not a very good picture but she's a bit camera-shy!  This gorgeous old-style heavily-roaned tri-color doe is the undisputed gentle herd queen.  Marvel is by Starbucks Irish Coffee (Goodwood Loganberry x Starbucks Itty Bitty Patches) out of Car-Lin Inez (Dav-Lyn White Thunder x Hall's Honey-Cutt Fame) and is very much a production doe with a good width and depth to her body without appearing clunky or coarse; her udder is absolutely perfect - I have no complaints either about how it looks or how easy and pleasant it is to milk and she produces quite a bit of milk even when nursing triplets.  Marvel is bred to Chance, a son of  Take Heart Blueberry Wine for June, 2009 babies.

The Buckling we retained from her 208 freshening is a cute little guy that's offered For Sale and can be wethered once we've finished using him this Spring for Fall 2009 kids.

Cloverdale IH Moulin Rouge - dob 05/01/2004.  This dark tri-color doe with wattles and some roaning on her face is by PromisedLand Incredible Hunk *S (ARMCH Twin Creeks Luck Of The Draw x MCH Gay-Mor's RA Nightowl 2*D) out of Twin Creeks MB Cabaret (Twin Creeks PD Megabuck x Redbud Tango 3*D) and really was a diamond in the rough when I acquired her.  Moulin is very easy to milk (once we taught her that the pail was not for sitting on) and has the "typical Hunk udder" with attachments all the way around, totally socked-on udder, very smooth fore-udder and large, soft teats.  She had wonderful capacity that nearly doubled with her second freshening and increased again with her third.  She is in body also a nice dairy doe, being deep in the barrel and wide and with very well-sprung ribs, probably among the best in the herd, second only to Marvel.  Personally I just find her eye-catching with her flashy colors and wattles but am so glad to see that she fits the breed standard all the way around as well.  Moulin is bred to Chance for late April, 2009 kids

Cloverdale BAW Spots N Dots - dob 10/10/2004.  This flashy doe is mostly white with buckskin pattern spots / splatters of black and reddish-brown, tan on her lower legs and some on her face, black eye liner and is just a very pretty color doe, having a natural uphill stance, sharp withers and very tight, straight, pretty feet and legs. I would like to see flatter bone has good spring of rib.  She is also developing nicely in the brisket, seemingly getting deeper every day.  This doe has a nice udder with large teats and that lovely Rosasharn soft udder.  She has good attachments all the way around and a strong MSL.  I'd like to see a smoother foreudder but when she's full it's fine so it's most likely due to the strong MSL.  Spots is by Rosasharn Tom's Bit-A-Willy +S (ARMCH Goodwood Tom Thumb + *S E x ARMCH Goodwood Water Lilly 2*D VG) out of Pecan Hollow PH Juliet *D (Twin Creeks AA Purple Heart +S G+ x Piddlin Acres Cupid's Passion).   Spots is bred to Frank for May, 2009 babies.

Cloverdale SS Stormalina - dob 09/04/2004.  A Storm Surge daughter, this nicely-built brown-and-tan chamoisee doe is almost a carbon copy of her sire except in her feminine face and demeanor.  Storm is by Twin Creeks BW Storm Surge + *S (MCH Twin Creeks BH Bay Watch ++ *S E x MCH Twin Creeks BH Mairiri's Zinnia 4*D E) out of another nice udder doe, Rosasharn's TL Esterlina (ARMCH Rosasharn's Tiger L + *S E x ARMCH Rosasharn's Guadalupe Moteada).  I like this doe's udder attachments, shape, MSL, teat placement and size, the whole udder package.  And that udder is backed by a nice, strong body with lots of "heft" to it without being at all coarse or awkward.  Storm gave us gorgeous triplets (two does, one buck) on March 1st, 2009 and they can be seen on the For Sale page!  I'm thrilled with this third-freshening udder and the fact that she FINALLY gave me a GIRL!

Piddlin Acres PV Willa VG   - dob 12/16/2002.  This cream and white doe is VERY long, nice and deep, could use sharper withers but that's just my uneducated opinion as no one else seems to have even a slight problem with anything about this doe.  At the LVDGA Norco show in 2008 she STILL scored an 89.8 on her classification after a yearling doe nursed one side down and dehydrated her to boot.  Willa has a soft udder with the plump (and plumb) teats spaced just right and pointed in the correct direction to hit the pail every time.   Willa is by Twin Creeks BW Peaceful Voyage *S (MCH Twin Creeks BH Baywatch *S E x MCH Twin Creeks BH Mairiri's Zinnia 4*D E) and out of Goodwood Will 'O The Whisp E (Gay-Mor's RA Kingwood + *S x Goodwood Tennessee) and kids easily every time. Willa has two AGS and two ADGA legs and will be campaigned this summer after she freshens.  Willa is bred to Take Heart Blueberry Wine for June 2009 kids

UPDATE: on July 03, 2009 Willa presented us with triplets again but a very rough birth including a very tiny stillborn doeling, a HUGE and very mature-looking stillborn buckling and a vigorous and exciting doeling that's going to do great things at the Allens' herd in Vista - watch for this cutie in the show ring!

UPDATE:  Willa did not disppoint, giving us two girls and a boy on April 8th, 2008.  One little boy hit the ground saying, "TA-DA!" and we've retained him as one of our favorite bucks, Tiny Colors Take A Chance.  Chance's first kids are due April, 2009.

Cloverdale Chocolate Drizzle   and
Cloverdale Splash Of Chocolate   - dob 05/28/2005.  Two daughters of PromisedLand Incredible Hunk *S (ARMCH Twin Creeks LS Luck Of The Draw x MCH Gay-Mor's RA Nightowl 2*D) and Caesar's Villa STS Heart Throb (ARMCH Caesar's Villa CBS Stetson ++ *S x New Horizons Qyeen of Hearts *D) are small but sturdy adult does.  Both are black with white and with silvery-tan moonspots with one of the does (Drizzle) is more power than her sister but both have nice dairy character and are well-balanced.  I am seeing more substance in their bone structure as they mature and they both have extremely nice flat bones and well-sprung ribs with Drizzle being just a tad better in that arena than her sister.  I also really like how level and uphill both are and how very wide between the hocks and with such a nice round wide escutcheon.  Both girls have very nice Hunk udders with fantastic attachments and great capacity, especially for their size.  Both does are bred for April / May 2009 kids

Desertwinds Mirage came to us  from Donna Geiser and is an absolutely wonderful addition to the herd.  She lives with Take Heart Skedaddle over at Nerat Acres and produces the best kids and most wonderful milk.   I have one of her daughters (Tiny Colors SK Annabelle - currenty bred for late February kids!) and just love how easy Mirage is to milk; she has that perfect temperament that is bred in and a well-built udder to back it up.  Mirage also has length and body capacity that speaks volumes for the great breeding program over at Desertwinds in Nevada.  Mirage is by Copper Penny Piper (Woodhaven Farms Lonesome Blues x Copper Penny Dusty Rose) out of Covenant Kids Lady Minervia *D (Woodhaven Farms Faron Hite x MCH Covenant Kids Lady Godiva) and most likely will participate in a one-day milk test so we can get a 2*D on her as I know she's got both the capacity / volume and the high butterfat in her sweet, thick milk.  She just freshened in July with triplets by Skedaddle, perfect as usual, with the girls sold immediately and the boy soon after.  Here she is with two of her triplets, these are the 2008 girls -

First Fresheners in 2009

Tiny Colors SK Anabelle - dob 05/06/2007.  This polled daughter of Take Heart Skedaddle (Goodwood KW Frasier x Foothill Ranch Feather Dancer) and Desertwinds Mirage (Copper Penny Piper x Covenant Kids Lady Minervia *D) is really what breeding does is all about for me.  She is gorgeous, structurally correct and just needs a bit of time to grow out of that awkward teenager stage.  We took her to one show last year, the Pahrump NV show and I was very gratified to receive so many positive comments from the people there about how she's developing.  This doeling is long and level, looks like she'll have nice body capacity and if I can get her mom's udder under there she's going to be here the rest of her life!  One thing that she has that surprised me is that "professional show doe" attitude; when we took her to her first show she was the usual misbehaving doeling until the moment we got into the show ring and then she figured out she could BE A STAR and just stood perfectly every time, didn't fight or fidget and by the end of the two days was almost begging to get back into the ring whenever possible.  She also travels very well and is very laid back, change doesn't seem to ruffle her feathers at all so she will definitely be in our show string this year, going to the Norco, CA show on May 3rd and also the Pahrump show on the 11 - 13th of October.  We are looking to breed her for late August or early September kids so she most likely will not be in any of the summer shows as I want her to enjoy her pregnancy without any stress or risk of infection.  I haven't decided for sure which buck I'll choose for her but I'm leaning towards Desertwind SN Sand Storm for his dairy build and perfect personality.  UPDATE: This doe is bred to Tiny Colors SS Moonshadow (a Sand Storm son) for May 2009 kids and is already showing great body capacity to go with her long leg bones and wide rear view.

UPDATE:  This doe gave me two spectacular kids on March 03, 2009 and we're retaining both as I love their conformation, personalities and the fact that both are polled is a bonus.  Look for Zena on the jr. doe page and Bazooka Joe on the buck page!

DC Miniatures NS Sasparilla - dob 03/12/2006.  This very pretty (dark mahogany and black with blue eyes) girl captured my heart when I was purchasing PT so when Dotty offered me the chance to buy her, I didn't hesitate.  She is structurally very correct although I'd like to see a sharper top line, especially in the whithers.  She is small but very proportional and I am interested to see what kind of udder she gives me; she's bred to Copper Penny Blue Frank for March babies.  This doe is by Little Tot's Estate Night Shade (Kaapio Acres Red Hot Topic *S x Little Tot's Estate Ginkgo) and out of a nice little doe, DC Miniatures Splashy Sassy (Woodhaven Farms Latigo x Adams Funny Farm Oh So Sassy) and I am anxious to see her kids.  UPDATE:  This doe FINALLY freshened and was due (or so I thought) in mid- to late-January by Frank but surprised me by producing three premature mini-mancha kids on Jan 17th 2009 - I guess Ace was a busy boy through the common fence between the two breeding pens!  Despite the babies being too premature to survive through the night I was glad to see they had nice conformation and that she was an excellent and attentive mother.  We've been milking her for a couple days now and she's really impressed me with her shape and how easy she is to milk despite her small-ish teats.  I will continue to milk her and will assume that her teat length will improve as we go along and even more with her next freshening.
